Dr. Bethany Kurina Marek, Psy.D.
Dr. Bethany Kurina Marek is a Licensed Psychologist who works with adolescents, adults, and older adults in individual, couples, and group therapy. She received her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Carlow University, her Masters of Science in Professional Counseling from Carlow University, and her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Edinboro University.
Prior to joining New Directions, Dr. Marek worked at an inpatient psychiatric facility, community mental health, and in private practice. She takes a psychodynamic approach to her work with clients believing that relationships, especially from one’s early life, are crucial and formative. Therefore, Dr. Marek believes that the relationship between client and therapist can be very healing.
Her clinical experiences include, but are not limited to: depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Veterans’ issues, trauma and abuse, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), grief, anger management, schizophrenia, and suicidality.
In addition to providing therapeutic services, Dr. Marek is extensively trained in personality and intelligence testing, forensic evaluations, and providing supervision.
Dr. Marek is a native of Pittsburgh. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, running, kayaking, and going to museums.
