Lauren Cormier’s professional background includes working with adults, couples, teens and families in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Lauren’s professional and personal journeys have taught her the power of the mind-body connection in facilitating health and wellness. Accordingly, Lauren believes in a holistic approach to therapy that includes addressing emotional, cognitive, physical, social, and spiritual needs. She also at times incorporates art therapy into the work she does with clients. Ultimately, Lauren works collaboratively with her clients to empower them to define and create fulfilling lives. Her warm, empathic approach helps clients learn to be more self-nurturing along their paths of personal growth.
Lauren has expertise helping clients with a wide variety of difficulties including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, traumas such as domestic violence and childhood physical and/or sexual abuse, eating disorders, and relationship problems. She also has expertise providing therapy to those in the LGBT community including clients struggling with their sexual orientation and gender identity.
Lauren is a Licensed Professional Counselor and art therapist who has been working in the behavioral health field for more than 10 years. She has lived in Pittsburgh since coming to the University of Pittsburgh in 1997 where Lauren completed a B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in pre-medicine studies. Her belief in holistic care above and beyond traditional medical approaches led her to pursue graduate studies in Art Therapy and Counseling Psychology (MAAT) at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA.
