Nicky Dericks is a Licensed Professional Counselor with an approach to counseling based in support, empathy, and genuineness, with emphasis on helping people to feel comfortable, safe and valued. She seeks to build a therapeutic relationship rooted in trust. Nicky believes in a holistic approach to therapy, and incorporates multiple methods and tools in her work with clients including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Nicky tailors therapy to the specific needs of each client. Nicky has nearly ten years of clinical experience providing help to children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of difficulties including but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, eating disorders, identity issues, substance abuse/addiction, and behavioral concerns. In addition, Nicky has experience in working with couples and families. She enjoys helping couples to understand one another better by providing a safe environment for each to share feelings, to be heard, and to be validated.
Nicky is passionate about helping individuals to understand themselves and their true identity by empowering them to change negative and irrational thought patterns, and deal with past pain in order to experience greater well-being. While Nicky cares for and enjoys working with clients of all ages, Nicky possesses particular passion and skill in helping adolescents and young adults to understand and develop value and self-worth and to enact self-respecting choices and behaviors. Nicky fundamentally believes that each person has innate value, and feels extremely blessed to be able to help others navigate the many challenges of life. Nicky is also able to incorporate her Christian faith and spirituality into the counseling process when desired by a client.
Nicky obtained her Masters of Education in Counseling at California University of Pennsylvania where she also obtained her Pennsylvania School Counselor Certificate. Prior to finding her passion for counseling, Nicky was a Director of Youth Ministries at Level Green Presbyterian church where she led programs for and counseled youth and adolescents.
