Dan Hetherington, Ph.D.

Dr. Dan Hetherington is a licensed psychologist with nearly 25 years of clinical experience providing psychological services in a variety of settings including private practice, a residential treatment facility, and community-based clinics.  Types of problems with which Dan has been particularly effective include survivors of trauma, adults and teens dealing with depression and anxiety, and couples struggling with relationship challenges.

Dan’s therapeutic style is client-centered and collaborative with particular emphasis on understanding and appreciating each client’s individuality.  The focus of therapy with Dan is on helping clients to discover new possibilities and new options, whether in specific situations or in relationships or within themselves, beyond the stuck points that typically lead someone to seek help.  Further, Dan’s therapeutic work is informed by family systems and psychodynamic theory, and he has a strong interest in the application of Eastern meditative approaches to psychotherapy.

Dan received his BA in psychology from Cornell University, after which he relocated to Pittsburgh in 1987.  He went on to earn a Master’s degree and Doctorate degree in psychology from Duquesne University.
