Holly Watchek, MHC

I am a master’s level therapist working towards my Pennsylvania LPC and beginning my outpatient journey at New Directions. I have years of experience working in schools learning many different behavioral techniques. I have worked with clients through individual therapy, group therapy as well as collaborating with parents and caretakers. My goal as a child therapist is to create a safe and fun environment for children while simultaneously establishing personal goals and skills to support their lifelong success.

I work with children up to age 10 years old who need additional support in a variety of different areas. I specialize in anxiety, ADHD, grief, self-esteem, social skills, and behavioral needs. Additionally, I have worked with children struggling with trauma, anger management, autism, and many other needs. Therapy goals for children may include learning skills to understand and resolve conflict, understanding their emotions and feelings, learning positive coping, social, organizational, and decision-making skills, building self-confidence, and overcoming challenging obstacles.

I use different approaches to therapy depending on my client’s needs. My theoretical orientation for every client begins with a person-centered approach where a trusting therapeutic relationship is developed through empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. In addition to person-centered I utilize CBT, DBT, REBT, solution focused, choice and mindfulness techniques. While working with children, I use these techniques through the implementation of play therapy, art therapy and/or behavioral therapy.
