Sofia Alvarez, Psy.D

In her practice, Sofia celebrates all unique identities, and values authenticity, connectivity, and insight. She strives to create a warm, accepting, non-judgmental, understanding, and conversational experience that invites clients’ full, genuine self into the room.  She works to help clients transform the therapeutic experience into concrete and meaningful changes in clients’ lives. Sofia works with adults, couples and adolescents presenting with a variety of concerns, including but not limited to: trauma/PTSD, depression, anxiety, OCD, eating concerns, low self-esteem, relational problems, adjusting to specific stressors, and grief/loss.

Sofia excels in creating a strong and authentic connection with clients in order to facilitate meaningful and enduring change.  Sofia works in a collaborative manner with her clients to help them grow and actualize their potential. She believes that a strong therapeutic connection can lead to deeper and more enduring change. Sofia utilizes intentionally integrated psychodynamic, interpersonal and multicultural approaches in her work. She customizes her interventions to the individual and will incorporate mindfulness and CBT/DBT techniques when appropriate.

Sofia is a native to Miami, FL and graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with her BS in psychology, neuroscience focus. She attained her masters and doctorate in clinical psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). She completed her doctoral internship at Texas A&M University. She considers herself a life-long learner, and is dedicated to staying current with the latest research to inform her evidence-based approach in therapy. She believes that we all are in a constant state of change and becoming, which is reflected in her personal life and her work with her clients. Sofia is passionate about the music and the arts, social justice, and experimenting in the kitchen.
