J. Ash Bowie, PsyD is a licensed psychologist and Clinic Director at our Wexford – VIP Drive Office. For the last two decades he has been committed to helping adult and adolescent clients live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. He is a strengths-based clinician and utilizes well-evidenced approaches. Dr. Bowie compassionately addresses a range of psychological issues, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, grief and loss, life transitions, and issues related to aging. His primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), although he draws from multiple orientations as appropriate, such as mindfulness, narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapy, Gestalt therapy, and motivational interviewing. Dr. Bowie treats every client as a unique individual deserving of respect, warmth, and a collaborative attitude.
Dr. Bowie is the Clinic Director of the Wexford office, responsible for ensuring that the practice continues to provide an exceptional level of care for every client. Prior to joining New Directions, Dr. Bowie has worked in a range of professional settings such as community mental health clinics, public and non-public schools, social work agencies, and residential programs for adolescents with autism and adults with traumatic brain injuries. He has developed and managed several mental health programs as well as a graduate training program. Ash’s breadth of experience has led him to work with clients, trainees, and supervisees from a broad range of backgrounds and he approaches cultural diversity with humility and openness.
Dr. Bowie earned his Bachelors in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and his PsyD from the APA-accredited Psychology Doctoral Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, CA. He grew up in Houston and has lived in New Orleans, Atlanta, Austin, Salem MA, San Francisco, and Oakland before moving to Mt. Lebanon with his family after discovering it was the perfect place to raise their son. When out of the office, Dr. Bowie is an avid photographer and movie buff.
