Nina Patel, MSW, BASW, LSW, LBSW

Licensed Social Worker

My ideal client would include children and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety and behavioral issues like ADHD and depression. Their primary issues might include difficulty focusing in school, impulsivity, emotional outbursts, and challenges in social interactions. At home, they might experience conflicts with parents or siblings due to their behaviors, leading to feelings of frustration and isolation.

Their needs would center around effective coping strategies to manage their emotions, better communication skills, and tools to improve their focus and organization. They may also need support in developing self-esteem and resilience.

Their goals would include improving their behavior both at home and school, building stronger relationships with peers and family, and gaining a better understanding of their emotions. Ultimately, they want to feel more in control of their lives, succeed academically and socially, and develop a sense of belonging and confidence. They seek not only to alleviate their current struggles but also to equip themselves with lifelong skills for emotional regulation and positive interactions.

I can help children and adolescents through a variety of evidence-based approaches designed to their unique needs. My specialties include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This approach helps them identify and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors. We work together to develop healthier ways of thinking and coping, empowering them to manage their emotions more effectively.

Play Therapy: Using play as a medium, I create a safe space for children to express themselves. This approach helps them process their feelings and experiences in a way that feels natural and comfortable.

Behavioral Therapy: I implement strategies to reinforce positive behaviors and reduce negative ones. This can include setting clear goals, using reward systems, and teaching problem-solving skills to help them navigate challenges.

Mindfulness Techniques: I incorporate mindfulness practices, such as calming techniques and breathing exercises, to help them manage anxiety and stress. These skills can enhance their ability to focus and stay present in the moment.

Art: Using creative expression, I encourage children to explore their emotions and experiences through art. This can be a powerful way for them to communicate feelings they may find difficult to verbalize and something they can also practice at home.

Through these methods, I aim to build a trusting relationship, helping them develop coping skills, improve their emotional regulation, and foster resilience. My goal is to empower them to thrive both at home and in school, ultimately enhancing their overall well-being.

I want my patients and their families to know that I genuinely care about their well-being and understand the unique challenges they face. I create a warm, welcoming environment where they can feel safe to express themselves without judgment. I believe that every child has the potential to grow and thrive, and I’m here to support them on that journey.

I also want them to know that I value collaboration. I work closely with parents, caregivers and families to ensure a holistic approach to their care. Together, we can build a consistent support system that fosters progress at home and in school.

If you’re considering therapy for your child or adolescent, I invite you to reach out. I’m here to listen, answer any questions, and help you determine the best path forward. You don’t have to navigate this alone; together, we can find ways to create positive change and enhance your child’s emotional well-being. Your journey is important, and I’m here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
