Darren Koch, MS

Mental Health Counselor

My ideal client would be coming in for debilitating anxiety associated with stressful life event(s). The client is having difficulty focusing at home and at work as the anxiety has become “overwhelming.” He/she would be looking for strategies to better manage his/her symptoms and regain “control” of his/her life.

There are several ways that I can help the client above. Foremost, I will actively listen, validate, and be present for my client, facilitating trust and building the framework for a strong and productive therapeutic relationship. Once the relationship is established, I will then begin to explore what approach would work best for my client. When appropriate, I will introduce techniques for managing the client’s anxiety, reviewing progress at each session.

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University Maryland. A listener by nature and a teacher at heart, I instinctively gravitated toward a career in mental health. My unwavering passion for guiding others drives my desire to help folks through life’s obstacles.

I possess a dynamic work history in mental health including, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, residential care, higher education faculty, and leadership. As a result, I am comfortable utilizing a multitude of treatment approaches including but not limited to CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Brief Dynamic Therapy, Mindfulness, and Evidence-Based Treatment. I believe in an attentive, collaborative, and empathetic mental health care model, which provides the ideal environment for positive change.

In my downtime, I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, laughing, and reading a good fiction novel.

One of my favorite quotes… “Believe you can and you’re halfway there – Theodore Roosevelt”
