Christopher Heckman, MSW

Social Worker

I am a clinician at our Greensburg clinic who provides therapy services!

My ideal client is ready to make a change, even if they’re unsure where or how to start. They may be dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or significant life stressors. Some may have struggled for a long time; others may be experiencing emotional challenges for the first time. Their needs could include wanting to be heard and understood. They may want to feel like themselves again or change how they react to difficult situations. They might want to learn how to be easier on themselves. They might realize that some of their actions don’t align with their values. Whatever it is, they want to feel like they have a say in their treatment and want a collaborator they see consistently.
They aim to increase coping skills, build confidence, or build healthier, more sustainable relationships. They might want to overcome social/situational anxiety, decrease impulsivity, and find ways to manage emotions during stressful situations. They might want to break cycles that they find themselves stuck in. They want to do everything they can to grow, heal, and be more present. They may need to change things in their lives because they recognize they are worth it and that they matter.

I take a client-centered approach and tailor treatment to meet each individual’s unique needs. My experience in mental health spans a variety of settings, where I’ve had the opportunity to serve and support individuals with severe and chronic mental illness, substance use disorders, families, children, and adolescents—whether through individual or group counseling. I value progress in all forms and celebrate growth, whether big or small.
I understand that therapy can be hard. It’s not always fun or easy, and it doesn’t always feel good in the moment—but that’s okay. We move at your pace, whatever that looks like. I will always strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can show up authentically and feel supported through the ups and downs.
My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other evidence-based interventions, depending on each client’s strengths, goals and preferences. I work collaboratively, walking alongside clients as they navigate challenges, build insight, and work toward lasting change. There is no one-size-fits-all solution—progress takes time, effort, and patience. My role is to be a support, a listener, and an advocate as we take that journey together.

I want you to know that reaching out is hard and doesn’t always feel good. Whether you have tried counseling before or this is the first time, I’ll be here to meet you where you are. You don’t need to figure out everything or know what you “should” do. Showing up is hard enough sometimes. You matter and deserve somewhere where you can be honest and heard and explore what you want life to look like. As a collaborator, I will work with you to figure things out. I can offer tools, support or education, but you are always in charge, 100%. This is your journey, and you have the power to shape it. I bring compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to help you with whatever life throws at you because I have had people who helped me, and I know the power of having someone there for you. Together, we will find the best ways to overcome challenges and navigate life how you want. I want you to succeed in what you want to succeed in and do what you want to do in your life. You are not alone and I want you to feel that you do not have to do anything alone. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions about starting the process.
