Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Are you aware of something that no longer fits in your life? Is there a heaviness in your heart or your mind that you are ready to release? Do you have goals for yourself that seem to remain out of reach? I’d love to work together. Ideally, you are motivated; therapy is a collaborative experience and takes active participation from both the therapist and the client, including completing homework outside of session. I often tell clients if the only time you work on yourself is during the hour we meet, not much will change. Outside of the therapy room, a lot of magic happens. I excel at working with children, adolescents and adults; I have experience working with folks with a variety of diagnoses; even so, I think it is more important to focus on the symptoms and experience of the individual rather than the label. Whether you are dealing with a curveball of life such as an unexpected health challenge, recent trauma or loss, I am here to tell you, there is a way through. Perhaps, you are looking to deepen your connection to Self, improve relationships with others or to up level your life in another way. Together, we can carve a path forward, so that you can shift from surviving to really thriving!
I have over 10 years of experience working with individuals and families across the lifespan in various settings – outpatient, home, school and community – including those with a variety of mental health diagnoses, substance use, neurodivergence, behavioral challenges, members of the LGBTQIA + community and other minority groups. Your unique lifestyle, views and attitudes are welcome – all parts of you are welcome in session. I find that therapy works best with trust and rapport. Once our safe container is established, we can discuss what interventions will meet your needs. I use an eclectic, trauma informed approach that allows us to build your roadmap to healing and expansion. I typically use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) as a foundation for change and love opportunities to practice mindfulness and emotion regulation to help clients to change their thoughts, behavior and build a life with purpose and meaning. I also use Motivational Interviewing, Polyvagal Theory, Exposure Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) as needed. In addition, I utilize Play Therapy, Theory of Mind and Behavioral Activation when working with children. Any therapy session that I walk into, I bring my very human self with me – my acceptance, humor, intuition, and lightheartedness. My holistic background in Reiki, meditation and yoga allows me to teach some unique coping skills related to relaxation, breath work and embodiment to help facilitate whole body and mind well being.
To quote Friedrich Nietzsche, “My formula for greatness in a human being is amor fati: that one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backward, not in all eternity. Not merely bear what is necessary, still less conceal it—all idealism is mendacity in the face of what is necessary—but love it.”
Amor fati is the idea of loving your fate, loving your lot in life because oftentimes it’s not what you do, but how you do it; your attitude towards it that makes all the difference. This is especially true where our humanity shines through and with things in life that we cannot change. Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my family – my husband, our daughter and our tuxedo cat. I also enjoy spending time in nature – hiking and walking local labyrinths. Enjoying these pleasures is part of my work-life balance and part of what makes me human. If what I’ve shared appeals to you, don’t hesitate to reach out and see what’s possible when you give yourself permission to be human, to evolve where you can and soften where you can’t.
