John Jarzynka, MA

Mental Health Therapist

My ideal client is anyone from ages ten to ninety-two who wants to speak and be heard, listened to and understood in counseling. My ideal client wants to understand themselves and the patterns they create or respond to in their day to day lives. Often the goals of therapy are to help a client speak to their particular issue, situation, or problem, to understand their emotions / feelings and ways to feel heard and not alone, to learn ways to manage this reality and lessen their suffering. The client who presents saying they feel they are losing their mind is always preferable to the client who says there is nothing wrong and their presence in counseling is the fault of others. The question of what a client wants and why takes on great importance in therapy, and can serve to help the person understand what they and not others want in their life, and ways to get there. Anyone willing to speak from their hearts and talk openly about their struggles in counseling are ideal clients. To help the other learn to recognize their voice, increase their self efficacy and ability, to learn kindness with themselves instead of cruelty, and to find ways to join with others thoughtfully to understand and be understood – these are my ideal clients.

I am skilled at actively engaging and listening to others in therapy to form a therapeutic alliance with the client and others in their life to understand their behavior, situation and struggles they are experiencing in order to develop and utilize strategies to make positive change. Helping children, teenagers, and young adults with Social Communication Skills – emotional self understanding and being able to express and understand social / emotional communication with others. I have worked as a Play therapist and as a Trauma therapist with children, teens, young adults and older adults throughout my career and continue to work with all ages. I utilize Rogerian, Psychodynamic, CBT, Conflict Resolution, and Family Therapy techniques.

My greatest teachers as a therapist have been my clients and what they have taught me about life, ways to understand others and what is important in helping others. Working with children and teens have helped me understand adults and working with adults have helped me understand children and teens. I continue to work with all ages.
