Sidney Freshwater, CMHC

Clinical Mental Health Counselor

I am a clinician at our Wexford – VIP Drive clinic who provides therapy services!

My ideal client is a 14-year-old girl who is struggling with anxiety, social anxiety, and relationship challenges, particularly with her mother. She often feels overwhelmed in social settings, fears being judged, and tends to isolate herself. At home, she feels criticized and misunderstood, which creates tension and emotional distance in the mother-daughter relationship. She also has difficulty maintaining friendships and frequently feels left out or unsure of herself. She needs a safe, nonjudgmental space to express her thoughts, learn effective coping strategies, and build confidence in social situations. Her goals are to reduce anxiety, strengthen peer relationships, and improve communication and connection with her mother. Ultimately, she wants to feel heard, supported, and more secure in herself and her relationships.

I can help by creating a warm, supportive environment where she feels safe to open up and explore her thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment. My specialty is working with adolescents who struggle with anxiety, relational challenges, and family dynamics. I use a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), emotion-focused techniques, and family systems approaches to help her better understand her anxiety, develop healthy coping skills, and strengthen her sense of self. I also work on improving communication and emotional connection within the mother-daughter relationship. I offer a compassionate, client-centered approach that empowers teens to feel more confident, connected, and capable in their everyday lives.

I want my clients—teens, adults, and parents—to know that you don’t have to go through this alone. Life is full of transitions, challenges, and moments that can feel too heavy to carry on your own. Whether you’re a teenager navigating anxiety, friendships, and school pressure, a young adult feeling lost in a season of transition, or a mother trying to hold it together while quietly battling postpartum depression, your experiences are valid and worthy of care.

I also work with adults who are facing difficult life changes, grieving losses, healing from trauma, or simply trying to reconnect with who they are. Many of the people I work with describe feeling stuck, unseen, or like they’re going through the motions. My goal is to create a safe, compassionate space where you can take off the mask, share your story, and begin to heal—at your own pace.

I specialize in supporting adolescents struggling with anxiety and self-esteem, adults going through life transitions or recovering from trauma, and mothers who may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected after childbirth. I meet clients where they are and walk with them toward healing, whether that means building coping skills, processing painful experiences, or improving relationships.

You don’t need to have it all figured out to reach out for help. If any part of this speaks to what you or your family are going through, I invite you to connect. Healing begins with feeling safe and seen—and I would be honored to walk that journey with you.
