Dr. Sona Nadkarni is an Adult and Child and Adolescent psychiatrist at our Wexford – Stonewood clinic who provides psychiatry services in-person and via telehealth.. She completed her internsnhip at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque and her psychiatry residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, following which she finished her Child and Adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC. Post fellowship, Dr. Nadkarni worked as an outpatient staff psychiatrist at a busy community mental health clinic in rural PA for several years where she treated patients from diverse backgrounds and all age ranges.
Dr. Nadkarni has a particular interest in trauma focused care and received training in Trauma focused CBT during her child psychiatry fellowship. She helps patients understand the effect that trauma and stress can have on our bodies and brains and strives to help patients find the path to healing and recovery.
Dr. Nadkarni provides medication management with a focus on using evidence-based treatments while also integrating a holistic approach and lifestyle modifications to help patients achieve and maintain wellness. She works with children, adolescents and adults struggling with mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, adjustment disorders and a wide range of other psychiatric conditions.
Her approach to treatment is primarily patient centered, supportive and collaborative. Dr. Nadkarni is a firm believer that therapy is an integral part of treatment and both medication management and therapy can help patients become the best version of themselves.
Dr. Nadkarni enjoys nature trails, poetry writing, travelling, baking and loves spending time with her family. She is proud to call Pittsburgh her home!
