Susan Jarvis, LCSW

I am a provider at our Monongahela clinic who provides therapy services in-person and via telehealth. My ideal client would be someone struggling with a mood disorder, such as bipolar disorder, major depression, anxiety, or OCD. They would be motivated to learn about themselves and how their disorder has kept them from having the life they would like. They would be willing to use therapeutic techniques to change the way they view themselves and increase activities that would lead to positive change. The ideal client would be open to developing and using new skills to improve their life

I would use a combination of therapeutic techniques to help the client experience positive change. Mindfulness is used to help the client be present in the moment rather than living in the past or worrying about the future. We would use cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to allow the person to realize how distorted self-perceptions have kept them from feeling positive about themself and challenging these beliefs can lead to personal growth. I would use motivational interviewing to help the client set goals and determine if their behaviors support those goals. DBT would be used to develop action steps in order to move ahead.

Suffering with the pain of mental health issues takes an enormous amount of energy and determination. We don’t always have the ability on our own to struggle with these emotions and how they affect our lives. You can, however, make a difference in your life by reaching out for help. There is hope. There is a way to improve your life and feel more positive about yourself and your role in life. Call to make an appointment to begin learning how to begin healing from the pain.
