Most often, I find myself working with adult women and issues that impact them (trauma, relationships, body image, motherhood, menopause, etc…) I have worked in the field of mental health for twenty years and my orientation varies depending on what is most appropriate for the clients I see. Most commonly, I utilize dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and person-centered therapy. I enjoy working with those that are curious about their inner lives but that are also interested in making changes to improve their overall wellness.
For the past eight years, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings with a focus on trauma and crisis intervention. Because of this, I am comfortable in a wide variety of situations. I think most of the clients I have encountered in my career would say my greatest asset is my ability to empathize and to listen without judgement. Personally, my life has been also been affected by mental health issues and and addiction. Having gone through my own turmoil has helped me to understand the value of psychological wellness in a fulfilling life. There is hope for everyone, no matter how low things seem. I have worked hard for nine years in recovery, and clients have expressed they feel more comfortable discussing things I personally have experience with. However, it is very important to me that the client and their experiences are first and foremost… I want to understand how they live in the world.
While not at work, I very much enjoy being in nature. Hiking is one of my favorite activities and each year, I travel to the western United States just for hiking. Additionally, I like to engage in regular fitness activities like yoga and biking. I’m a big reader as well. Above everything, I love playing with and walking my rottie, Sam. Everyone needs a little unconditional love! If you are looking for a therapist that is able to provide unconditional acceptance, the ability to listen, and partnership in exploring your life, I can be that person.
