Donette Svidron is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at our Wexford -VIP Drive Clinic who provides psychiatry services in-person and via telehealth.. She is licensed to diagnose, evaluate, and treat individuals with mental health disorders. She started her career as a Registered Nurse at Western Psychiatric Hospital (formerly WPIC) in 2001. While working inpatient and in the psychiatric emergency room, she developed skills and strategies for the pharmacological and behavioral management of clients in acute psychiatric distress. Donette treated individuals of all ages in her roles of inpatient registered nurse, nursing manager, nurse clinician and mental/behavioral health consultation liaison nurse to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
Donette earned her Master of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh in 2010. She began the new role of outpatient psychiatric nurse practitioner, specializing in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with mental health concerns. She has provided care to children, adolescents, and young adult individuals in both rural and urban organizations including Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and Allegheny Health Network.
Donette Svidron, CRNP believes in the promotion of well-being through education, prevention and intervention. Education is a cornerstone of her practice. Donette prioritizes time to assist her client to develop an understanding of the latest evidence-based treatments, both pharmacological and nonpharmacological. She resolutely emphasizes behavioral strategies to minimize the use of medication. Donette has a nonjudgmental approach. Her active listening skills allow her to build a trusting rapport with her clients. It is her strong belief in the autonomy of each individual that allows her to target the unique needs and goals of each client.
Donette was born in Latrobe, PA (one hour east of Pittsburgh) and resides in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh with her family. She is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially Pens and Steelers. However she devotes the majority of her time outside of work to spoiling her Siberian Huskies and volunteering assistance to animal organizations.
