Maegan is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in working with adolescents, adults, and older adults. She enjoys individual, couple, family and group therapy settings. She received her Masters Degree in Clinical Community Mental Health Counseling from Duquesne University. Her Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology is from Robert Morris University.
Prior to working at New Directions, Maegan worked at an inpatient rehabilitation as a Dual Diagnosis Therapist, outpatient as a therapist and a psychotherapist in private practice counseling. She also teaches various courses in psychology and counseling to both the undergraduate and graduate levels at Robert Morris University.
She takes a person-centered and integrated approach as she understands every individual is unique and thus their treatment should reflect their specific needs. Treatment approaches utilized include but are not limited to: Gestalt, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Strengths Based, and Emotionally Focused.
Her clinical experience includes: Addiction, ADHD, Anger Management, Anxiety, Attachment, Behavior Issues, Bipolar, Depression, Eating Disorders, Grief and Loss, Relationships, PTSD, Stress, and Self-Esteem.
On a personal note, Maegan Dougherty has resided in Pittsburgh for the last 9 years. In her free time you can find her running marathons, fishing, painting and kayaking.
