Master of Science in Counseling Psychology
I am a first generation Mexican-American. I speak both Spanish and English fluently. I lived in California until I attended college for my Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree. I stayed in Pennsylvania because I enjoy the surrounding woodsy nature and the full cycle of the seasons. I am naturally an intellectual and enjoy learning. My personality type is considered to be “INFJ-A” by Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
I work with grief/loss, anxiety, depression, and trauma-related disorders with families and people of all ages in a virtual setting. I use a structured but holistic approach to best encompass and understand the entire experience and perspective of a person’s life. I use exploration techniques to identify unhealthy schemas and the origin of trauma. I help clients learn and identify their own body, thoughts, and emotional connections to symptoms. In addition, I also use CBT, DBT, feminist-based, strengths-based, patient-centered, and trauma-informed approaches. The healing process varies and I will attempt to meet my clients where they are in their healing journey.
I attempt to provide some structure in therapy in order to provide my clients with some consistency. I begin with a general check-in, open session for client lead discussion, and provide psychoeducation with a variety of tools ranging from 1:1 practice of techniques, visuals (short videos, diagrams), exploration discussion, artistic expression, literary expression, worksheets, thought challenging, and mindfulness practices. I provide growth-based challenges to help the client discover themselves, build resilience, build trust in themselves, and build self-esteem.
I encourage honesty, comments, questions, and exploration of concerns in therapy. I believe healing within therapy is a team effort with the team being the client and myself.
